Brooks Pierce partner Jim Phillips has been selected to serve as an at-large member of the Public School Forum of North Carolina. He will begin his two-year term on July 1.

Founded in 1986, the Public School Forum of North Carolina is a nonpartisan group that brings together business, education and government leaders to advocate for higher-quality public education across the state. Phillips is one of 12 at-large members appointed to the forum earlier this month.

Phillips is a partner in the Greensboro office of Brooks Pierce. An accomplished litigator, he advises and represents businesses and professionals in litigation and other disputes with third parties and the government. He also recently served as co-chairman of Gov. Roy Cooper’s transition team, and is currently representing the governor in litigation challenging the constitutionality of laws enacted in late 2016 by the General Assembly. Phillips is currently a director of the James B. Hunt Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy and the chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Administration of Justice Committee. He is former chair of the UNC Board of Governors.
