Brooks Pierce Attorneys Present on Employment Law and Benefits at NC Bankers Association HR Workshop
Brooks Pierce partners Tricia Goodson and Melissa Weaver presented at the 2019 North Carolina Bankers Association (NCBA) CBS Benefits Day and HR Workshop on March 21. The two-day conference featured presentations on human resource management and employee benefits available to NCBA members.
Goodson and Weaver’s presentation, titled “When Worlds Collide: How to Handle the Intersection of Worker’s Comp, FMLA and the ADA,” covered the scope of employee leave provisions, discussing them from both an employment law and an employee benefits perspective. They discussed what human resources professionals must do when employees take statutory leave, and how the various leave regulations interact with each other.
Goodson counsels employers on day-to-day issues that arise with employees, including discipline and discharge issues and wage and hour compliance. She is the global vice chair of the Geneva Group International Labour Law Practice Group and is a frequent writer on employment law issues. Weaver has practiced benefits law for 30 years, working with employers to design, draft, implement and maintain employee benefit plans. She counsels businesses on qualified retirement, executive, deferred compensation, health and welfare plans, including life, accident, disability, cafeteria and flexible benefits.
