Brooks Pierce partner Charles Baldwin spoke at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Business Week 2018 on Tuesday, March 20. The annual event, held in the Cameron School of Business March 20-21, featured more than 100 sessions taught by prominent UNCW alumni and local professionals discussing a wide range of business topics such as business law, marketing, entrepreneurship and information technology.
Baldwin’s presentation, titled “Going Global: Key Issues in International Law and Trade,” covered the legal issues a company faces when entering either the U.S. market or a foreign market for the first time. He highlighted specific legal concerns companies encounter in international trade, including export licensing, customs, contracts, tax issues and dispute resolution.
Based in the firm’s Wilmington office, Baldwin has diverse experience in international law and arbitration, representing businesses in a variety of cross-border issues, including imports and exports, cargo claims, and Federal Maritime Commission matters. He is a frequent speaker and writer on topics related to international trade and corporate law and has been on the board of the N.C. Foreign Trade Promotion Council since 2016.
