Brooks Pierce Partners Participate in Panel at Wake and Durham/Chapel Hill Estate Planning Councils Meeting

Brooks Pierce partners Bob Saunders and Adam Tarleton participated in a panel discussion on charitable giving at a joint meeting with the Wake County and Durham/Chapel Hill Estate Planning Councils. The meeting took place on May 15, 2018 at the Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh.

Tarleton served as a panelist alongside Mary Morgan, philanthropy counsel for the North Carolina Community Foundation, and Jeremy Arkin, Vice President of Planned Giving for Duke. The panel discussed new trends in charitable giving, including how the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of has impacted donors and nonprofit organizations. Saunders moderated the panel discussion.

Saunders focuses his practice primarily on tax-exempt organizations, both charitable and non-charitable, and counsels them on tax issues, estate planning, and tax-exempt financing. He chairs the board of directors of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as the Chair of the Nonprofit Organizations Committee of the North Carolina Business Law Council, part of the North Carolina Bar Association. Saunders has taught nonprofit law at UNC Greensboro since 2006, and is a regular speaker on tax and nonprofit law matters.

Tarleton is a Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning who counsels entrepreneurs, family businesses, and nonprofits on tax, estate planning and administration, and charitable giving. He is on the board of directors for the UNC Law Foundation and the United Way of Greater Greensboro. Tarleton is a frequent speaker and writer on tax, financing, and estate issues.
