Brooks Pierce partner Daniel Smith served as a panelist at the 2019 Mid-year Appalachian Energy Summit, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on Feb. 28. The annual summit brings together students, faculty and business leaders from the community to discuss clean energy practices and technology. Smith’s panel, titled “Careers in Sustainability,” allowed students to hear from professionals in a variety of industries about how their work involves sustainability and green energy, and how students could pursue similar careers.
A former educator and environmental scientist, Smith focuses his practice on matters involving environmental, commercial, education and state constitutional law. He works with businesses on permitting and compliance with environmental regulations, including the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Air Act. Smith is the chair of the board of directors for Greensboro Beautiful, and teaches environmental and administrative law at Elon University School of Law.
