Elizabeth Troutman Speaks at North Carolina School Boards Association Conference

Brooks Pierce attorney Elizabeth Troutman recently spoke at the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) Fall Law Conference. The event was held Oct. 16-18 at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel.

The conference focused on helping board members better understand their role in school system operations, from working with the superintendent and board attorney to responsibilities related to school finance and the employment process.

Troutman’s presentation, “The School Board as the Employer,” detailed how boards deal with public accountability, the privacy of school employees and provided tips on how to help make thoughtful decisions when hiring and managing educators.

Troutman advises public school boards of education, private educational institutions, colleges and universities on a wide range of education issues and litigates on behalf of educational institutions in state and federal courts. She is a member of the executive committee of the North Carolina Council of School Attorneys, and was recognized in 2019 as a “Rising Star” in Schools and Education Law by North Carolina Super Lawyers. Troutman was selected as one of the Triad Business Journal’s “40 Leaders Under 40” for 2019. She was also recognized as a “2019 Influencer: Law” by The Business Journals.
