Elizabeth Troutman Speaks to School Associations on Preventing and Addressing Sex-based Harassment in Schools

Elizabeth Troutman, an attorney in the Greensboro office of Brooks Pierce, spoke to two state-wide school associations on preventing and addressing sex-based harassment in schools. She spoke to the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools on Feb. 21 and at the North Carolina School Boards Association’s Spring Law Conference on March 8.

Troutman’s presentation, titled “Creating a Positive School Environment: A Legal Perspective on Preventing and Addressing Harassment at School,” discussed the legal liability that schools have when students or faculty are faced with allegations of physical, emotional and sexual harassment. Troutman also discussed how school administrators can create a positive culture in their schools by putting policies in place that prevent and quickly address occurrences of harassment.

Troutman advises public school boards of education, private educational institutions, colleges and universities on a wide range of education issues, and litigates on behalf of educational institutions in state and federal courts. She is a member of the executive committee of the North Carolina Council of School Attorneys, and was recognized in 2019 as one of the Triad Business Journal’s “40 Leaders Under Forty.”
