Jim Phillips Presents "Credible Persuasion"

11.12.2009

Brooks Pierce partner Jim Phillips participated in the North Carolina Bar Association's Appellate Rules Committee CLE program on November 13 in Cary, NC. The CLE was entitled "Communicate, Advocate, Persuade - the Definition of Appeals."

Jim presented "Credible Persuasion" and discussed the limits of advocacy and communicating those limits to clients. The program enabled attendees to better understand the ethical issues surrounding appeals and how to appropriately and effectively address those issues.

For three years during the 1990s, Jim served as Legislative Counsel to the Honorable Jim Hunt, Governor of North Carolina. Utilizing his knowledge of government, legislative bodies and the law, Jim represents developers and land owners before local government bodies in land use and zoning matters. Jim has handled zoning matters in Greensboro and other North Carolina municipalities and has handled appeals to the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court arising from those local matters.
