Brooks Pierce attorney Ryan Fairchild served on a panel discussing the esports industry at the Minnesota Bar Association’s Art & Entertainment Law Section Annual Meeting and CLE on June 27.
The panel, titled “An Introduction to Esports,” introduced attendees to the esports industry and the various legal challenges that players, teams, owners and event coordinators face, including publishing and intellectual property rights, sponsorship contracts and league governance issues. Panelists also discussed how lawyers can design and build a practice focusing on the esports industry and the unique legal matters related to esports representation. Attendees of the panel received an hour of continuing legal education credit.
Fairchild’s diverse practice includes a particular emphasis on the esports industry. He represents players, organizations and stakeholders in a variety of contract, licensing and corporate issues. His passion for esports derives from being a lifelong gamer, and he understands the various esports cultures and dynamics, as well as legal issues facing the industry.
