Brooks Pierce partner Thomas Varnum will host a virtual workshop at the LongLeaf Film Festival on May 15. The workshop, “Legal Basics for Indie Filmmakers,” will offer insight into legal concepts for independent filmmakers to consider, including copyright, insurance and distribution. There will also be a chance for attendees to ask Varnum questions.
Varnum represents individuals and companies who are active in all types of entertainment projects, from film and television to online videos and other media. He regularly works with independent producers and other filmmakers, counseling clients throughout the preproduction, production, postproduction and distribution process. He has represented and negotiated with production companies, talent scouts and entertainment lawyers from all over the country, helping to bring creative ideas all the way from inception to the screen. An adjunct professor of entertainment law at Elon University School of Law, he also has a personal interest in film and television and is active in North Carolina’s film industry.
