Brooks Pierce attorney Will Quick was recently quoted in an article on the website of international technology company Citrix Sharefile. The article, which focuses on the top industries affected by data leaks in 2017, breaks down the numbers and vulnerabilities for each of these industries. Looking ahead to 2018, it suggests that while cybersecurity risks are not a thing of the past, vulnerabilities are changing as businesses educate themselves and shore up their defenses.
Quick, who was quoted several times, spoke to the business data that is often the most vulnerable. “The types of data that can be collected in a medical industry breach are generally more valuable than what is collected in other industries,” explained Quick. “This is largely because of the plethora of data that is contained in medical records. Personal contact information, medical history, billing and payment information, Social Security numbers: this type of information can be a goldmine for committing identity theft.”
