02.17.2016

Thomas Varnum, a partner in the Wilmington office of Brooks Pierce, has been presented with the Carl B. Brown, Jr. Silent Worker of the Year Award from the Brigade Boys & Girls Club.  The award acknowledges an individual who has performed valuable behind-the-scenes services for the organization without recognition.

Varnum has been a Brigade Boys & Girls Club board member for four years.  He is an active member of the organization's Club of Rising Professionals (CORP) group, where he works with children and also assists with fundraising, membership, events, programming and community relations for Brigade.  In addition, Varnum mentors a teen who was recognized as Brigade Boys & Girls Club's Youth of the Year.

"I feel grateful to be able to contribute to an organization that positively impacts the lives of so many children," said Varnum.  "Brigade Boys & Girls Club allows me to give back to our community and help our youth succeed.  I look forward to watching the organization grow and benefit many more children in our region."

Founded in 1896, the Brigade Boys & Girls Club serves over 2,400 youth annually across New Hanover, Pender and Onslow Counties.  It offers quality afterschool and summer programs in a safe, positive and supervised environment.
