Brooks Pierce Government Relations Advisor Named to Leadership Role with University of North Carolina System

Brooks Pierce government relations advisor Chris McClure has been named executive vice president and chief of staff with the University of North Carolina System effective March 1. 

In January 2019, McClure was named co-chair of the eight-member transition team for the interim president of the UNC System. While that search has continued, he has taken on considerable responsibility within the university system, including serving as interim chief of staff. This makes his role within the UNC System more permanent.

“For more than a year, Chris has dedicated his time and energy to helping the UNC System through a time of tremendous transition. We wish him the best as he pursues this new opportunity,” said Reid Phillips, the firm’s managing partner.

McClure joined the government affairs team at Brooks Pierce in 2013 and represented organizations in the communications, technology, transportation and medical sectors before the N.C. General Assembly, the executive branch and regulatory agencies. Before joining Brooks Pierce, he worked for North Carolina Congressmen Patrick McHenry and Mark Meadows. He has held a number of leadership positions in campaigns and politics, including serving as the executive director of the North Carolina Republican Party and working for the campaigns of presidential candidate and Texas Governor Rick Perry. He also previously served as a communications and government affairs coordinator for the N.C. Technology Association. In 2013, McClure was named one of the “Most Influential Lobbyists” in North Carolina by the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research.

McClure received his bachelor’s degree in political science from UNC-Chapel Hill.
