Brooks Pierce Partner Profiled by Wilmington Business Journal

Brooks Pierce partner Thomas Varnum was recently profiled by the Wilmington Business Journal. The article appeared in the April 5 edition.

In the article, Varnum discusses his co-ownership of Mad Mole Brewery and his legal practice at Brooks Pierce. He discussed working with writers, actors, agents, directors and producers on diverse issues including business formation, intellectual property, project financing, non-disclosure agreements and litigation. Varnum also discussed how his work fits into Brooks Pierce’s larger practice in entertainment law, which has gained the firm national recognition.

“I sit with an entrepreneur who’s in the weeds on the newest business and we’re talking about how to protect their content and how to build up this venture and it’s just almost the same conversation I’m having with the filmmaker saying ‘I’ve got an idea for a film; how do I build it up and how do I find money and how do I go convince the world that they want to consume what I’m producing?’” said Varnum.

Varnum represents and counsels businesses on a wide range of intellectual property and business matters. He also practices in film and entertainment law, working with producers and filmmakers throughout the entire production process. He is an adjunct professor at Elon University School of Law teaching entertainment law. Varnum served for three years as the chairman of the board of directors for the Cucalorus Film Festival Foundation in Wilmington and serves on the board of directors of the Brigade Boys and Girls Club.
