Coe W. Ramsey, a partner at Brooks Pierce, was recently quoted by Business Insurance in two articles on media copyright law.

One article discusses photo copyright issues in light of a recent Khloé Kardashian lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that Kardashian posted a photo on Instagram that she didn’t have permission to share. Similar lawsuits are becoming more frequent as social media continues to grow in popularity.

“Companies need to have very clear policies that prohibit snagging and using images and other content on the internet,” Ramsey is quoted as saying. “That’s dangerous — you don’t want to be doing that.”

The second article mentions a 2015 jury decision holding that Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I.’s song “Blurred Lines” infringed on the copyright of Marvin Gaye’s song “Got to Give It Up.” The case is currently on appeal to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The article discusses the complexities of music copyright lawsuits and the controversy involving the “Blurred Lines” decision. Ramsey noted that “[t]here really couldn’t be a better song title at issue in that case.”
