Brooks Pierce Partner to Lead NCBA Intellectual Property Law Section

10.25.2016

Darrell A. Fruth, a partner with law firm Brooks Pierce, has recently been named chairman of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section.

Fruth, who is based in the firm’s Raleigh office, maintains a broad practice helping clients navigate issues with law and technology.  He also serves as a senior lecturing fellow and supervising attorney at the Duke University School of Law’s Start-up Ventures Clinic, overseeing law students as they provide free legal services to companies that cannot afford to hire private attorneys.

North Carolina Bar Association Sections allow attorneys to discuss relevant legal issues and concerns with other attorneys who focus on similar areas of the law. The Intellectual Property Law Section focuses on copyright, patent trademark and related legal issues.

“I am honored that my fellow attorneys have asked me to lead this practice section,” Fruth said. “Intellectual property law is rapidly evolving to keep up with new technologies and the emerging issues they create, so this is a really exciting time to be practicing in this area.”

Fruth is registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office and helps protect, license, assert and defend rights in intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. He received engineering degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California at Berkeley before graduating from Yale Law School.
