Law firm Brooks Pierce, which has a deep media and entertainment practice, is pleased to sponsor the 20th annual Cucalorus Film Festival, being held November 12 – 16 in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. Thomas Varnum, a partner in the firm’s Wilmington office, serves on the Cucalorus board of trustees.
Called “one of the coolest film festivals in the world” by MovieMaker Magazine in 2013, Cucalorus is an independent, award-winning film festival held each November in downtown Wilmington. This year’s festival features more than 240 independent and international films, including an extensive list of world premieres, U.S. and regional premieres, award-winning international films and debuts from both well-known and up-and-coming filmmakers.
The festival is coordinated by the Cucalorus Film Foundation, a multi-disciplinary arts organization that supports emerging and innovative creative professionals through the annual film festival, a residency program, a summer camp for teen filmmakers, and extensive community outreach.
In addition to serving on the Cucalorus board of trustees, Varnum is a member of the Wilmington Regional Film Commission. His personal and professional interests merge in his entertainment law practice, in which Varnum represents individuals and companies in all types of entertainment projects, from film and television, to online videos and other media. He has represented and negotiated with actors, producers, production companies, writers, agents and entertainment lawyers from across the country, helping talented people bring creative ideas all the way from inception to the screen.
