Outling Discusses Establishing Trust Between Greensboro Police and Residents

02.28.2017

Brooks Pierce associate Justin Outling, a member of the Greensboro City Council, was recently featured in an episode of “Building Bridges,” a show on the Greensboro Police Department produced by the city.

Outling, Mayor Nancy Vaughan, Councilmember Marikay Abuzuaiter and Police Chief Wayne Scott talked about some of the steps the city and its police department has taken to help build trust with the community. Among some of the programs discussed were the city’s policy about releasing the footage from body-worn cameras and its policy prohibiting racial profiling by police. Greensboro was one of the first cities in North Carolina to adopt both of these policies.

The panel also discussed the efforts of community policing, the Citizens Police Academy and the role National Night Out and other programs play in helping build rapport and trust with the residents of Greensboro.
