ReverbNation.com, a service that provides tools and opportunities for musicians to manage their careers, is featuring a new blog series by Brooks Pierce partner Coe W. Ramsey and attorney Amanda Whorton. The bi-weekly series, titled “Music Law 101,” will cover a wide variety of legal topics relevant to artists, musicians, songwriters, producers and other professionals in the music industry.
In their posts Ramsey and Whorton will offer professional insight on various topics such as copyright law, trademark law, the right of publicity, laws relating to agents and managers and music contract law. In the first two installments, the pair provides an introduction to copyright law by addressing the often misunderstood issue of what copyright laws protect and explaining how authorship and ownership of music copyrights are determined.
Ramsey, a former DJ, focuses his practice in entertainment, media and intellectual property law. Whorton, a former television producer, practices entertainment and media law and also counsels businesses and individuals in a range of intellectual property issues.
