Thomas Varnum, a partner in the Wilmington office of Brooks Pierce, has been included in the inaugural class of “40 Under 40” award recipients, presented by StarNews Media and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes young professionals either living or working in Brunswick, New Hanover or Pender counties who display commitment to serving their community. Winners will be honored on Oct. 22.
“Thomas has distinguished himself as an attorney and a leader in the Wilmington community, and we are proud that his hard work and dedication has been recognized,” said Reid Phillips, managing partner of Brooks Pierce.
Varnum focuses his practice on intellectual property issues, including trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, idea protection, and digital marketing. He also works with film and television projects, counseling filmmakers and other artists through the pre-production, production, post-production and distribution processes.
Varnum serves on the board of trustees for Cucalorus Film Foundation, the host of one of the Southeast’s largest independent film festivals. He also serves on the board of directors of the Brigade Boys & Girls Club, has taught entertainment law at the Elon University School of Law, and co-owns Mad Mole Brewing in Wilmington.
