Thomas Varnum, a partner in the Wilmington office of Brooks Pierce, has been named board chair of the Cucalorus Film Foundation. Varnum has been a member of the board for three years and served as its treasurer in 2015.
“I feel honored to help lead an organization that contributes so much to the Wilmington community,” said Varnum. “Cucalorus successfully preserves and promotes the creative arts while positively impacting Wilmington’s economic development. I look forward to working with Cucalorus as it grows not only as an arts foundation, but as a business organization as well.”
The Cucalorus Film Foundation is a multidisciplinary, nonprofit arts organization that supports emerging and creative professionals through an annual film festival. The independent, non-competitive festival takes place each November in downtown Wilmington, where screenings of international films occur at venues across the city. Last year’s event attracted over 17,500 directors, critics and film fanatics from all over the world to view more than 250 film selections.
Varnum is an intellectual property, entertainment and business lawyer who helped establish Brooks Pierce’s Wilmington practice in 2013. He graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and went on to earn his law degree from the University of California at Davis School of Law.
