Will Quick Discusses Cybersecurity with the Triangle Business Journal
Brooks Pierce attorney Will Quick recently spoke with reporter Jennifer Henderson at the Triangle Business Journal about the threat of cyberattacks on businesses.
Quick, a member of Brooks Pierce’s data privacy team, spoke to the risks that medium and small businesses face when it comes to cyberattacks. He said that while hackers still consider the amount of data they can access in targeting a potential company, the ease with which they can obtain personal information and other data is also a major factor, and smaller businesses often have fewer defensive systems in place than large companies. Quick spoke to the increasing threat to small and midsized businesses and suggested ways to better protect data, including strengthening password requirements and keeping systems updated.
“It doesn’t matter what size you are or what industry you’re in, even companies that are old North Carolina companies that have been around a long time [and are recently moving into digital] that don’t think of themselves on the cutting edge still often have a lot of data about individuals that is stored digitally or otherwise,” Quick said.
