Brooks Pierce is pleased to announce the addition of Eric Fletcher as a partner in the firm’s Raleigh office. Fletcher, who previously worked at the firm from 2018 to 2021, returns after spending more than three years as General Counsel to North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. His significant experience in government and political law, combined with his strong background in commercial and business litigation will help serve clients with both litigation and advisory matters in a number of different areas.
Fletcher was named “One to Watch” for Commercial Litigation in the 2021 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® as well as a “Rising Star” by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly and North Carolina Super Lawyers that same year. Prior to his first stint at Brooks Pierce, Fletcher earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, served as a law clerk to Judge Michael Boudin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and practiced at a large international law firm in Boston.
“We are ecstatic to welcome Eric and his indispensable dedication, experience, and commitment back to Brooks Pierce,” said Brooks Pierce Managing Partner Jimmy Adams. “We look forward to the unique insights he’ll provide to our clients as a result of his time in the Office of the Governor and his deep knowledge of both the connection between law and public policy and the stakeholders that are impacting many of the important issues in our state.”
In addition to helping clients with issues at all levels of government, Fletcher also represents clients in campaign and election matters and regulatory matters. With experience as a former federal appellate clerk and appellate litigator at a large international law firm, he also represents parties in all stages of appellate litigation in courts around the country and has worked with businesses and individuals in a wide range of industries to resolve complex commercial disputes.
“I am thrilled to return to such a friendly and highly regarded group at Brooks Pierce,” Fletcher said. “The litigation, regulation, and government relations teams at the firm are as good as it gets, and I’m excited to jump back in and contribute to help meet our clients’ needs across the board.”
Fletcher is the former Legislative Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association Appellate Section and spent many years as a founding board member for Think NC First. Prior to attending law school, he worked for North Carolina Governor Mike Easley and North Carolina State Treasurer Richard Moore.
