03.17.2025

Brooks Pierce attorneys Erin Barker and Melissa Weaver will speak on March 21 at the North Carolina Business Coalition on Health’s (NCBCH) 2025 Spring Forum. They will present the “Employer’s Legislative Update,” discussing the latest labor & employment updates that employers need to know.

As the employer voice in North Carolina advocating for a better healthcare delivery system, NCBCH seeks to use their collective voice to influence decisions that impact the quality and cost of healthcare delivery systems in North Carolina. They also provide resources, education, advocacy, innovation and networking for employer members seeking to improve the well-being of their workforce in the most effective, efficient, yet cost effective ways.

Barker advises clients on various employment and ERISA & benefits-related matters. Erin’s practice includes navigating legal compliance and best practices for workforce management; designing and implementing employment agreements, non-qualified deferred compensation plans, and severance agreements; counseling on compliance with ERISA, the Affordable Care Act, COBRA, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and other federal and state laws; conducting employee benefits due diligence in connection with a merger or acquisition; and responding to an investigation or audit by the U.S. Department of Labor or Internal Revenue Service.

Weaver has practiced employee benefits law for over 35 years. Having previously served as an in-house attorney, she has a unique understanding of the needs of business owners regarding the design and implementation of employee benefits and deferred compensation plans.
