In an article published in HRO Today, Brooks Pierce Partner and Director of Diversity and Inclusion Justin Outling was featured in a discussion of the current legal landscape of corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

He explains how companies can still practice their DEI values, but should evaluate whether the executive orders and recent cases related to DEI affect their programs. When changes are made, he says, it’s important to engage employees who are most likely to feel strongly, one way or the other, beforehand.

Outling concludes that business leaders should manage expectations. “Many people are not aware of, or do not care about, the underlying legal and business realities that shape policy. Creating an awareness of a new reality while reaffirming commitment to company values is a balancing act that will be needed in this new environment.”
