Brooks Pierce is a sponsor of NC TECH’s State of Tech EXPONENTIAL conference on May 22-23 at the Durham Convention Center. The event includes a kick-off networking reception, interactive sessions and workshops, a startup showcase for early-stage tech companies and a Tech Expo. Partner Will Quick is moderating the breakout session panel discussion, “AI: Promises + Perils.” Panelists include RJ Bardsley, CEO of Wireside Communications, Sara Copic, Instructor/Researcher at Davidson College and UNC Chapel Hill, Lawrence Freeman, Director of Next Gen Tech with Kubrick Group and Caryn Woodruff, Director of Technology at IBM.

With more than 700 members, NC TECH is the statewide trade association for technology companies. State of Tech EXPONENTIAL is its largest annual content-oriented conference. Brooks Pierce is a long-time member of NC TECH, and our attorneys represent a number of the state’s leading technology companies. Partner Ed Turlington has served as State Government Counsel to NC TECH since 2005 and, along with colleague Drew Moretz, advocates for the industry before the legislative and executive branches. These efforts include supporting funding for broadband internet in schools and businesses, working to improve technology procurement laws and helping write a state law to discourage litigation abuse by patent trolls.

Quick is a business and litigation attorney with a diverse practice representing clients throughout the Southeast. He has a particular focus on litigating individual and class action claims involving violations of state consumer privacy protection statutes and federal privacy laws. Quick also advises clients on the design and implementation of privacy compliance programs and assists with incident response and notification obligations following data security incidents, including ransomware attacks. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Privacy and Information Security Law from the North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization and an IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional United States.
