Brooks Pierce attorneys Shana Fulton and Shepard O’Connell will speak to members of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) during the 2021 Antitrust & Complex Business Disputes Law Section Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program. The program is centered on antitrust and complex business disputes, exploring frequent issues like closely held business issues and privilege.
The presentation, “White-Collar Criminal Law 101: What Every Civil Litigator Needs to Know,” will examine the complex ethical issues, such as privilege concerns, that arise when criminal law and civil litigation overlap in business disputes.
Fulton represents individuals and businesses facing white-collar criminal prosecution and government investigations. As a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, she has extensive experience handling trials and hearings in state and federal courts of all levels. Her previous experience as a prosecutor gives her a unique understanding of the techniques and strategies employed by the government against her clients and helps her devise strategic responses to defend them. She is currently a member of the NCBA Antitrust & Complex Business Disputes Section Council, the NCBA Minorities in the Profession Committee, Women’s White Collar Defense Association and a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Focusing her practice on civil litigation and white collar defense and investigations, O’Connell represents individuals and businesses in high-stakes business litigation. She represents individuals and companies who are under criminal or regulatory scrutiny concerning their business practices. O’Connell is a member of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association and the North Carolina Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
