Brooks Pierce partner Mark Prak has been awarded the 2019 Business Support of the Arts Award by the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County. The award recognizes outstanding contributions by businesses, organizations and individuals to the Raleigh and Wake County arts community.

Based in the firm’s Raleigh office, Prak focuses his practice on media and communications law. Following the renovation of the office in 2017, he served on the committee that curated an art collection to showcase in the space. The collection includes nearly 50 pieces, including paintings, pottery and sculpture, largely from North Carolina artists. Separately, Prak has curated an extensive personal art collection as well as hosted fundraising events for a variety of arts programs.

“Mark’s passion for the arts mirrors his dedication to his work with our clients,” said Reid Phillips, managing partner of Brooks Pierce. “We encourage all of our attorneys to pursue their passions, both inside and outside of the office, and are delighted that Mark’s commitment to the Raleigh and Wake County arts community has been recognized.”

Prak has also received extensive professional recognition. He has been consistently recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for his work in First Amendment, media and communications, and mergers and acquisitions law. He has also been named a “Litigation Star” and was named North Carolina’s “Litigator of the Year” by Benchmark Litigation in 2012. He has been named a North Carolina "Super Lawyer" for Communications every year since 2006.

An active member of the community, Prak currently serves as chairman of the board for the Old Baldy Foundation and serves on the board of directors for Audubon North Carolina, the North Carolina Open Government Coalition and the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County.
