11.24.2013

On November 25, 2013, the NC State Bar Board of Legal Specialization certified Brooks Pierce Partner David Sar as a “Specialist” in Trademark Law.  North Carolina’s Trademark specialty is the first such specialty in the United States, and David was selected in the first, or inaugural, class of trademark specialists.  In addition, David was previously named to, and remains on, the Board’s Trademark Specialty Committee which evaluates applications and writes the exam other applicants must pass in order to become specialists in Trademark law.  Trademark Law continues to be one of David’s practice areas, in addition to his work in the areas of Intellectual Property and Technology, Litigation, Complex Business and Corporate Litigation, and Antitrust.

According to the State Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization, certification of lawyers as specialists by an objective entity and according to objective criteria fulfills the mission of the State Bar to protect the public by providing relevant, truthful, and reliable information to consumers of legal services. Certification helps consumers to identify lawyers who have experience and skill in a certain area of practice. Certification also helps lawyers by encouraging them to improve their expertise in particular areas of practice and providing them with a legitimate way of informing the public and other lawyers of this expertise.
