Updates on the North Carolina Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice

08.04.2020

On July 31, Brooks Pierce attorney Shana Fulton published a North Carolina Bar Association blog post on the North Carolina Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice (TREC).

The blog post summarized the activities of the TREC and provided insight into the immediate recommendations from the task force, including requiring law enforcement officers to intervene and report when they see another officer abusing a person in custody or using excessive force, prohibiting the use of neck holds by law enforcement and recommending that the state Supreme Court require that judges consider an individual’s ability to pay before a fine or fee is ordered.

Fulton represents businesses and individuals in criminal and civil litigation, under government investigation or in conducting internal investigations.
