In the current issue of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, Brooks Pierce partner Jennifer Van Zant joins several other women attorneys in lending their perspectives on the progress women attorneys in the Carolinas are making to close the legal profession’s gender gap. The feature, “Tipping the Scales,” brings forward the many issues women attorneys face as they navigate their careers, including parenting, mentoring and leadership.
Van Zant says that it’s vital for people to educate themselves on their opportunities for equity and advancement, as well as the discriminatory barriers they may face. It’s essential, she says, for everyone to be cognizant of their own unconscious biases: “I would like people to look at their own firms and their own situations and try to identify what barriers there are to success within their organization.”
Van Zant represents clients in a variety of complex business disputes, including numerous class action cases and LLC ownership disputes before federal courts and the North Carolina Business Court.
