Brooks Pierce’s Government Relations Advisor, Katy Kingsbury, was recently featured on an episode of the State Lobbying Heroes podcast. The podcast explores the career paths of state government relations professionals and seeks to share the legislative wisdom they provide on the podcast.
This episode focuses on Kingsbury’s role in the legislative process, and what led her to become a government relations advisor and registered lobbyist for Brooks Pierce. She discusses the start of her career as a campaign manager and legislative assistant at the North Carolina General Assembly (NCGA).
“I represent state parks, local parks, an organization called North Carolina Forever, and some transportation and IT clients…a lot of what I do is just advocating for whatever their needs may be, that’s the best part of lobbying, not every day looks the same. We have many clients with many different needs,” Kingsbury said.
Kingsbury advocates for clients before the executive and legislative branches of North Carolina state government. As a former campaign manager and legislative assistant, she is experienced in navigating the NCGA. She uses this experience to implement effective legislative strategies. She additionally monitors and researches legislative actions that affect clients, and assists in designing strategies on a variety of issues.
