Brooks Pierce partner Shana Fulton was quoted in a Jan. 5 Law360 article on the nationwide legal effort regarding the Jan. 6, 2021 siege of the U.S. Capitol.
The article, “‘Flooded’: Jan. 6 Caseload Draws Nationwide Legal Effort,” discusses U.S. attorneys’ offices prosecuting cases across the country and the challenges they are facing with managing more than 700 cases.
In the article, Fulton said “the use of out-of-district prosecutors was unusual but not surprising.”
"I don't see how the U.S. Attorney's Office in D.C. could have done these cases without getting support from Main Justice and other U.S. attorney's offices," she said. "I'm sad that it's come to that, because it must be that the volume of cases is ridiculous. I've never heard of a circumstance like this before in recent U.S. history."
Fulton represents businesses and individuals in criminal and civil litigation, under government investigation or in conducting internal investigations. As a defense attorney and former Assistant U.S. Attorney, she has experience litigating and investigating high-profile and complex matters at all levels of federal and state trial courts. She loves using her deep experience as a defense attorney and federal prosecutor on complex matters that feature a mix of criminal, civil and regulatory issues.
