Brooks Pierce Capital Dispatch: Updates from the NC General Assembly and Governor’s Office, December 3, 2021
Legislators this week began wrapping up the legislative session for the year.
End of the Year Activity
Legislators met on Monday this week and considered a number of bills that typically signal the end of a legislative session. Among them were the budget technical corrections bills (H 334, S 296) and an appointments bill (H 978). They passed a bill (H 979) that would adjourn the session between Dec. 10 and 30 and make a limited number of bills eligible for consideration upon their return. Legislators are holding no vote sessions until Dec. 10.
Energy Choice Bill
Both houses this week passed a bill (H 220) that prohibits local governments from banning the use of energy sources, such as natural gas, in new construction or renovations. Although no local governments in the state have such bans, the bill sponsors indicated that some California communities have such bans on natural gas or propane in order to encourage the use of electric power.
