Brooks Pierce partner Bill Cary was featured as a speaker on a webinar sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration Program (REPI) and the National Association of Counties (NACo) on Nov. 16.
The panel discussed building climate resilience and preserving military mission readiness. Cary spoke on his experiences across the southeast helping bases and the communities that support them identify resilience projects eligible for REPI or other funding and suggestions for how counties can become engaged. New Hanover County Commissioner Rob Zapple moderated the discussion.
Cary helps clients address the risks and opportunities that climate change and extreme weather bring. His recent work with U. S. Department of Defense and several NGOs working together to identify ways to strengthen the resilience of coastal DoD facilities has led to projects being submitted to the REPI. He is also actively engaged with the Southeast Regional Partnership for Planning and Sustainability, which brings together state and federal agencies from six southeastern states to focus on environmental sustainability initiatives that promote conservation as part of assuring military readiness and is now focusing on coastal resilience issues.
