In an article published by the North Carolina Bar Association, Brooks Pierce attorney Collins Saint and Elizabeth “Brooks” Savage, attorney at Matheson & Associates, PLLC, provide a five step primer for lawyers to better understand topics related to gender identity, sexual orientation and other LGBTQ+ topics. The primer focuses on learning the lingo, being intentional, respecting pronoun use, advocacy and responding respectfully to mistakes when they occur.
The article was developed in collaboration with the NCBA Young Lawyer Division’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee as part of a campaign to provide a platform to highlight diversity, share experiences and initiate conversation around these important topics.
Saint advises and litigates on behalf of public and private educational institutions and school boards on an array of education law issues, including special education and disability issues, civil rights laws, and tort claims. He also represents businesses in a variety of industries to resolve disputes, litigating in state and federal court when necessary.
